Welcome to the Exam Lab
Exam Lab turns GCSE & A-level revision into real exam questions, marked the instant they're answered. Every answer is checked against the specific marking criteria and examiners' reports for that specification.
- Exam practice
- Instantly marked
- Every UK board
Who are you?
A parent, with a child revising
See the revision actually happening — the effort, the progress, and exactly where they need a hand.
A secondary school teacher
Set GCSE tests, let them mark themselves, and see exactly where each class is going wrong — on one printable page.
A college or sixth-form lecturer
A-level exam practice marked to examiner standard, a report per class — and the Academy for students heading into healthcare.
Revision you can finally see.
Your child answers real exam questions. Exam Lab marks every one the moment it's submitted, shows them where they went wrong, and keeps you in the loop — so revision stops being a mystery you both just have to trust.
- 63 questions answered across 4 sessions
- Strong on cell transport & enzymes
- Worth a look: osmosis calculations

A 100-second overview of Exam Lab
Three minutes to set up. Then it just runs.
Pick their subject & board
Choose the exact specification — AQA, Edexcel or OCR, GCSE or A-level, Foundation or Higher.
They answer, it marks
Your child works through exam-style questions. Each one is marked instantly, with feedback on where the marks were won and lost.
You both see progress
They see topics turning green; you get the weekly digest and can check in any time.
The revision black box, opened.
"Are they actually doing any work — and is it any good?" You shouldn't have to guess. Here's what changes.
Revision you can see
Questions answered, days on a streak, scores trending up. Real effort, made visible — no more taking "I've done loads" on faith.
Instant feedback that teaches
Every answer is marked in seconds against what a real examiner looks for — so a mistake becomes a lesson in the moment, not a red pen three weeks later.
A quiet word every week
A simple email digest lands in your inbox: what they worked on, what's clicking, and the one topic worth an encouraging nudge. Support without the nagging.
Built on the real exam
Not generic quiz content. Questions and marking are matched to your child's exact specification and the criteria examiners actually use.
How Exam Lab helps students in each year
The earlier the habit starts, the less the final year has to carry.
Year 10
By practising exam questions on the exact topics as they're taught across the year, learning embeds faster and sticks. Come Year 11, nothing feels like it's being seen for the first time.
Year 11
This is where the pressure builds — mocks after Christmas, the real thing in the summer. Practising early and consistently through Year 11 builds the resilience and confidence to walk into every paper knowing what's coming.
Year 12
A-level questions are a step up. Practising as each topic is studied builds the exam technique early — and with universities looking at mock results in the run-up to UCAS, you don't want to be left short.
Year 13
The final hurdle — why leave it to chance? Consistent practice finds the weak spots early, while there's still time to fix them, instead of in the exam hall.

What's the Medical Mavericks Academy add-on? +
The Academy is Medical Mavericks' virtual work-experience and careers programme. Add it to Exam Lab (the £29/mo bundle) and your child gets a real feel for NHS and healthcare careers — virtual work experience, sessions with real professionals, and careers guidance — turning good grades into a genuine path towards medicine, nursing, paramedicine and beyond. It's optional; Exam Lab works brilliantly on its own.
Which subjects and boards are covered? +
Every major UK science specification at GCSE and A-level — AQA, Edexcel and OCR (Gateway, Twenty First Century, and both Chemistry A and Salters at A-level), including combined and separate sciences, Foundation and Higher — plus International GCSE from Edexcel (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Science Double Award) and Cambridge (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science and Co-ordinated Sciences, Core and Extended). International A-level Biology, Chemistry and Physics from Edexcel and Cambridge, and the IB Diploma sciences at Standard and Higher Level. WJEC GCSE and A-level for Wales (including the new GCSE The Sciences), Eduqas A-level, CCEA GCSE and A-level for Northern Ireland, and SQA National 5, Higher (including Human Biology) and Advanced Higher for Scotland. Plus BTEC National Applied Science (the three examined units) and the T Level in Science core papers. 80 specifications in total.
Does my child need a printer or special kit? +
No. Exam Lab runs in any web browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Answers are typed, marked instantly, and progress saves automatically.
How is the marking accurate? +
Questions and mark schemes are matched to the exact specification and grounded in the official examiners' reports — the same guidance real markers use — so feedback reflects what actually earns marks.
Will I be told if they stop revising? +
Yes — the weekly digest shows activity and progress, so a quiet week is easy to spot early, while there's still time to help.
Is your child aiming for a career in medicine or the NHS?
Great choice with Exam Lab — that's the grades sorted. If they're dreaming of medicine, nursing, paramedicine or any healthcare career, the Medical Mavericks Academy adds what exam practice can't: a real feel for what those jobs are actually like.
You’ve chosen the Family plan (up to 4 children). Not sure? You can always add the Academy later from your account.
- Virtual work experience across NHS and healthcare roles
- Hands-on with the real science behind medicine
- Meet real professionals and hear how they got there
- Careers guidance that turns good grades into a plan
Stop marking past papers by hand.

A 100-second overview of Exam Lab
There are two ways to use Exam Lab.
Students can build their own practice tests, and you can set assigned tests for a class. Most departments use both. Watch each one below — they're about two and three minutes long.
Students create their own tests
Students log in and build a practice test in under a minute — in lessons or at home. They pick the topics and question sizes, answer in their own words, and get examiner-style marking and feedback straight away.
- Any topic on your exact specification, any time
- Answers save automatically, so they can stop and come back
- Every answer still feeds your class report
Teachers set assigned tests
You build an exam-style test and assign it to a class. Everyone sits it, it's marked automatically, and the exam report is ready the moment they finish. An end-of-topic check or a homework you never mark by hand again.
- Same paper for everyone, or unique questions per student
- Set an open and close time; students see it under Assigned tests
- Report shows exemplar answers and common misconceptions
Both routes feed the same class report and each student's revision map, so independent practice and set work add up to one picture.
Marking done. Gaps found. Evenings back.
The two jobs that eat your week — marking practice and working out where a class is stuck — happen automatically.
Marking that gives you your evenings back
Every answer is marked the instant it's submitted, to examiner standard, whether it's one student or a hundred. No more stacks of past papers on the kitchen table.
See where every student is going wrong
Drill from the whole class to one student to one topic. Strengths and focus areas are worked out from the actual questions they drop marks on — down to the individual specification point.
Your classes, in one place
Your groups — Year 10 Set 2, Year 11 Set 1, Year 11 Set 2 — sync in from the Academy, and each keeps its own report, so you can compare sets or zero in on one.
The printable class report
Names down the side, latest scores, strengths and focus topics across the page. One landscape sheet for a department meeting, an intervention list, or parents' evening.
Set it up once. Get a report for every class.
Your classes sync in
Year groups and sets come across from the Academy, each ready for its own report — no spreadsheets to keep.
Set a test — or let them practise
Assign an exam-style test to the class, or let students work through questions on their own. Either way it's marked against the spec automatically.
Pull the class report
Open any class's report, spot the shared gaps, and print the landscape sheet to hand out.

Teacher questions
What's the Medical Mavericks Academy add-on? +
The Academy is our virtual work-experience and healthcare-careers programme for students. Add it to your plan (the "Exam Lab + Academy" option) and students get virtual work experience across NHS roles, sessions with real professionals, and careers content alongside the exam practice — strong for enrichment and your careers provision (Gatsby benchmarks). It's optional — Exam Lab stands on its own.
How does the free trial work? +
Start a free 14-day trial (no card): add a class, set a test or let students practise, and pull a real class report so you see the full picture. After that, schools and colleges buy an annual plan — pick your seat band above and pay by card, or request an invoice with a PO on 30-day terms.
Can students practise on their own, or only in tests I set? +
Both. You can assign an exam-style test to the whole class, and students can also log in and practise independently any time. Every answer — set or self-directed — feeds the same class report.
How accurate is the automatic marking? +
Marking follows each specification's own mark-scheme conventions and the examiners' reports for that board — the recurring misconceptions, command-word rules and terminology markers actually apply. It's designed to mark the way your board's examiners do.
How do I get reports for each of my classes? +
Your classes sync in from the Academy as separate groups — Year 10 Set 2, Year 11 Set 1, and so on. Each has its own report you can open and print as a clean landscape page for meetings, interventions and parents' evenings.
